             PROJECT UCSMILASCS 001
Uphold Community Strength – Mini Independent Library and Small Charity Shop 001

This project is initiated by the United Voice of Badagry People Initiative (UVOBPI), a non-governmental organisation (NGO) known for its values of Transparency, Empowerment, Accountability, Management, Communication, and Organisational Perception (TEAMCO). The project falls under UVOBPI’s operational objectives ELPD/004/O3 and PHB/005.

Project Description

Uphold Community Strength is focused on establishing a Mini Independent Library and Small Charity Shop in the Badagry community. This empowerment project, referenced as UCS/PPN003/UO1 under UVOBPI’s Articles of Association, Section 2 (“raising awareness on the problems facing Badagry people and seeking collective solutions through empowerment-related projects”), aims to strengthen local capacity and provide sustainable community support.

The project will serve the Badagry community by developing key skills among participants:

1. Interpersonal Skills – Participants will learn how to build strong relationships, assist others, respond to concerns, resolve conflicts, motivate peers, and work effectively in teams.

2. Organisational Skills – Participants will practice meeting deadlines, multitasking, planning, setting and achieving goals, and managing time efficiently.

3. Leadership Skills – Training will cover decision-making, evaluation, management, problem-solving, team building, and strategic planning.

4. Communication Skills – Participants will develop abilities in advising, explaining, instructing, presenting, public speaking, translation, writing, and editing.

Background

The idea for the Mini Independent Library and Charity Shop was shaped by UVOBPI’s long-standing concern for educational development in Badagry. In June 2013, UVOBPI published an article titled “Ajara Senior Grammar School: A Case for Concern.” The article highlighted the poor conditions at Ajara Grammar School, where a single classroom held nearly 240 pupils. This pressing issue prompted UVOBPI to create an awareness video, still available at http://bit.ly/1gatZPP.

In response, and to promote basic educational development in Badagry, UVOBPI is proud to announce the opening of a new Mini Independent Library and Small Charity Shop. Though modest in scale, the two initiatives are interconnected to enrich the experience of community members and provide long-term educational and social benefits.
